  A little History

Daphne has always been a poet but others did not know it (or believe it). She recalls writing her first poem when she was a young child in elementary school.  Her teacher asked the class to write a Halloween poem.  Daphne anxiously completed her poem by the deadline; she recalls a verse in the poem, "Ghost and goblins in the sky, scaring the little children that go by," but to her disappointment, the teacher’s only comment after she read the poem was, "where did you copy it from?"  Daphne assured her teacher that she did not copy the poem but that she wrote it. Several hours later her teacher approached her with a stack of books in her hands, glared at her and said, "I can’t find this poem anywhere, but I know that you copied it!" Daphne says she remembers it like yesterday; the words were like a sharp dagger, which killed her motivation to ever write a poem again.

 A Resurrected Talent

In 1981 Daphne began to attend church regularly.  During that time she also decided to use her gift to write, because she had found the truth and realized that it no longer mattered who believed in her because believed in herself and she found her God that also believed in her.

A Radio Personality

In 1984 Daphne met Mattie Clark, the host of "It’s a New Day" on KMOJ Radio in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Mattie invited Daphne to read a poem on her radio show, she accepted the invitation.   The listening audience and staff at KMOJ embraced her and appreciated the poems that she shared with the community. Daphne acquired a passion for radio broadcasting so she went back to school and took writing and public speaking courses at the University of Minnesota.  She hosted her own radio show "Words of Inspiration" and she ministered by means of radio for twenty-four years.

Daphne enjoyed the years she spent at KMOJ; she said it was exciting to meet many people and celebrities. She cherishes the photo she took with Carvin Winans in the mid 80’S. The Winans was her favorite gospel group and she bought all of their cassettes (CD’s were not heard of then).

 Carvin Winans and Daphne Adams

Daphne feels it was a blessing to have multiple opened doors, popularity, favor and speaking engagements but her main thrust was to encourage people.  When inmates, the elderly, children, teenagers, people from various churches and old school classmates say, "Keep doing what you’re doing because it encourages me," she feels that her labor was not in vain.

A Passion for Children

Daphne also loves children and partially due to the setback she faced as a young child she is a regular volunteer at elementary schools.  She works with young children and encourages them to keep the hope alive!
